Dr. Iichiroh Ohhira (Doctorate of Natural Science, Veterinary Medical Science and Science in Health Science)

Dr. Iichiroh Ohhira (Doctorate of Natural Science, Veterinary Medical Science and Science in Health Science)
Dr. Iichiroh Ohhira, known worldwide as "Dr. Ohhira," is a renowned authority on lactic acid bacteria. Around 40 years ago, in 1977, he was engaged in designing gardens and parks both in Japan and abroad. While working on an urban park project in Malaysia, he became ill during a celebratory meal held upon its completion. At that moment, a local young man offered him a spoonful of a mysterious fermented paste. Skeptical but curious, Dr. Ohhira tried it--and, to his astonishment, he quickly began to feel better.

Driven by the question, "What was that paste?", Dr. Ohhira returned to Japan and, just before turning 50, enrolled in a graduate program at Okayama University. There, he devoted himself to studying a wide range of fermented foods from Southeast Asia. Through years of trial and error, he eventually identified the mysterious paste as a fermented food created by lactic acid bacteria. Further in-depth research led him to discover a unique strain of lactic acid bacteria, which he named "TH10." Using this discovery, he successfully developed a plant-based fermented extract made from vegetables and fruits grown in Japan.

Today, Dr. Ohhira's products are used in over 35 countries around the world--including the United States, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Since their release, Dr. Ohhira's deep desire to promote health and longevity has continued to spread across the globe.

In recognition of his achievements in landscape design, Dr. Ohhira was honored in Malaysia with an honorary award and received a viscountcy. His contributions to health through the discovery of the TH10 strain and plant-based fermented extracts have also been internationally recognized. These accolades include the 18th Japanese Dairy Science Association Prize and the Gusi Peace Prize in the Philippines.
